Adelphi students, faculty and staff come together for the first ever Panther Picnic as part of the official Opening Week on campus.

The quad at Adelphi University filled up on Wednesday, August 31, as students, faculty and staff came out in force for the first-ever Panther Picnic. The event—a joint effort of the Student Activities Board and Adelphi’s Spirit Committee—featured food, music and giveaways and was a fun a free way for students to reunite with friends and make new ones.

While students munched on hamburgers, hot dogs and cotton candy, Adelphi’s popular Panther mascot ran around dancing with the attendees and posing for photos.

Pratibha Anand, a freshman biology major, said that her favorite thing about Adelphi is how friendly everyone has been to her since she moved in and how it “feels like we’re all a family.”

President Christine M. Riordan also came out for the picnic. “I love events like this,” Dr. Riordan said. “We will have a lot more spirit activities this year, and I hope the community will join us to continue panther pride.”

The picnic was just one of many events held for students as part of Adelphi’s official Opening Week.
