Margaret Gray, Ph.D., associate professor in the Adelphi University Department of Political Science and author of Labor and the Locavore: The Making of a Comprehensive Food Ethic (University of California Press, 2013), recently spoke to PBS News Hour about lack of legal protection for farm laborers.
“The agricultural industry’s greatest subsidy is the lack of protection for agricultural workers,” Dr. Gray told PBS News Hour. “The system was dependent on the exploitation of slaves. That legacy carries through and directly affects farm workers.”
