The top-rated Adelphi women’s lacrosse team is off to a blazing 3-0 start this season. Helping to lead the charge is team captain, Jacqueline Jahelka, a junior who is from Garden City, New York. She has accumulated 16 goals and three assists in the first three victories. An article in Lacrosse Magazine revealed some of the keys to her success.

First, the support of her parents and family, who go out of their way to watch her play.

“They always have one person at the game, so whether it’s my mom or dad or grandmother or my brother or cousins, they are always standing above the 50-yard line,” Jahelka told Lacrosse Magazine. “Before the first whistle blows, I make sure to look up there and give them a wave.”

Coach Pat McCabe also praised Jahelka’s work ethic.

“There’s never been a day since I’ve been on the job where I looked at her and said, ‘We need to get more out of Jackie Jahelka, or Jackie Jahelka needs to work harder,’” McCabe said in the Lacrosse Magazine article. “Those words have never come out of my mouth.”
