Laura Liu, Help Desk Assistant/Lab Consultant

The staff of the Office of Information Technology would like to congratulateYixiao "Laura" Liu

Yixiao “Laura” Liu
Student Worker of the Month for January 2013

Laura is a Help Desk Assistant/Lab Consultant and has been a student worker in IT since January 2012.

She is working toward her M.B.A. and expects to receive her degree in 2013. As an international student from Yuncheng, Shanxi Province, China, she enjoys that her job in IT allows her to learn more about American culture and computer technology and explore different way of thinking.

Here are some of the comments we received from the staff members who nominated Laura:

Laura is a highly dedicated and reliable worker always happy to lend a hand to get the job done. A very fast learner, Laura  came up to speed quickly and continues to  learn more  each  day. Never afraid to try something new she volunteers for any task at hand.  She was the lead student over the summer working with Peter making sure all of the wires under the desks were neat and tidy,  replacing covers, and  tightening all  screws, she became very proficient using a screw gun.  Always  on time,  Laura gets the labs in order early in the morning filling all printers with paper, cleaning  desks and straightening chairs.  During the day  she can be found in the labs  helping faculty, students, and staff alike answering questions and  demonstrating how to complete tasks with computer programs. Laura is a model employee who leads by example.

Laura is by far our most diligent worker at the Help Desk. She’s one of those workers that you look forward to having in the office every day. Being an international student, it’s understandable how some things could get lost in translation but Laura never seemed to let these potential obstacles get in her way of doing her job, and doing it well. Laura exemplifies what we look for in a Help Desk student worker.

Laura is always willing to offer her assistance and has an excellent rapport with her peers and faculty. She is flexible; always on time, extremely organized and can work independently with the ability to follow through to ensure that any task assigned gets done.
