Dr. Lauren Mounty joins Adelphi; Flash Mob for 1 Billion Rising; @AdelphiU Twitter award nomination; CHI mental health poll...

Dr. Lauren Mounty was announced in the Poughkeepsie Journal as the new vice president for enrollment management and student success of Adelphi University. Dr. Mounty has 27 years of leadership experience in higher education and currently serves as dean of the School for Global and Professional Programs at Marist College. She previously was associate dean at the Fordham University Graduate School of Business Administration. 


FiOS1 News aired a video of Adelphi student’s “flash mob” performance that took place in the UC Cafeteria on February 14. The dancers raised money for 1 Billion Rising, a global event against violence toward women and girls.


Adelphi University’s official Twitter account, @AdelphiU was nominated for a Shorty Award, honoring the best in social media. Results will be announced at the 5th Annual Shorty Awards ceremony, April 8 in New York City.


An article in Newsday, which ran on February 17, quoted Jonothan Ivanoff and Maria Casey from Adelphi’s Center for Career Development. The topic was how small businesses can provide valuable internships. Ivanoff, associate director of internships, said that companies must be, “willing to put in time to nurture students.” Casey added that internships should provide “meaningful and challenging” work.


Results of Kappa Sigma’s Super Hungerfest fundraiser event came in at 1,850 lbs of food donated—just shy of one ton. This year’s collection is more than double the 900 lbs donated last year. In addition, the fraternity raised $3, 695 for the nonprofit Island Harvest. The news was reported in the Garden City Patch.


Adelphi’s Center for Health Innovation revealed the results of its poll of mental health professionals. Dr. Jonathan Jackson, director of the Center for Psychological Services and director of clinical training at the Adelphi Derner Institute reported the findings in interviews with 23 radio stations, including national interviews with the Wall Street Journal, USA Radio Network and American Urban Radio Networks, as well as key stations in CA, CT, DC, NJ, NY, MI, OH and MA.
