Dean Shawn O'Riley looks back on 40 years of University College.
For 40 years, University College has helped working adults across the region complete their college degrees and move up the corporate ladder and on to professional and graduate schools. University College was founded on the principle that adult students are unique and require a different way of thinking when it comes to the college experience. While we have added new degree programs, staff, faculty and delivery modalities, we have always stayed true to the principles that University College was founded on decades ago.
Those include a commitment to course delivery and schedule that fits the needs of busy working professionals, enlisting faculty with both academic training and professional experience to help bring theories and concepts to light in the classroom, providing a wide range of credit options that allow students to benefit from their years of professional and personal experiences, and providing a unique, high-touch academic advising service that assists students in balancing their college commitments with the needs of their careers and families. Our continued success in retaining and graduating adult students from all walks of life speaks to the soundness of the vision and mission of University College. As we move forward into the future, University College will not stray from these founding principles, even as we explore new fields of study, levels of attainment and modalities of teaching.
To all of those who have been a part of the University College story over the past four decades, we thank you for your commitment and support.
Shawn O’Riley, Ed.D.
