Students, Alumni and Friends of University College:
We are looking forward to the start of another academic year at Adelphi! This year marks the 40th anniversary of University College. During the year, we will be looking back on our proud history and forward to innovative initiatives that continue to be the hallmark of University College.
This spring’s Commencement
saw the first graduating class of our M.S. in Emergency Management
program. Our initial cohort of graduates were greeted on stage by the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson, J.D., a former member of Adelphi’s Board of Trustees, who gave the keynote address. The emergency management program completes its transition to a fully online format this fall as we look forward to welcoming a new group of students from across the country this semester.
This summer will bring another successful completion of our Pre-College
intensives in July and August. This year’s programs ranged from Musical Theatre to Introduction to Game Programming
and will give rising high school juniors and seniors an excellent opportunity to experience the Adelphi campus, faculty and curriculum. New program director, Kate Matzkin, is already hard at work planning an even larger program next summer.
We are also excited to announce that we’ve become the newest chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda, the national adult student academic honors society. University College students with a cumulative 3.5 GPA or above will be invited to join Adelphi’s Sigma Eta chapter this fall. They can look forward to joining a network of hundreds of other high-achieving adult students from the 300-plus Alpha Sigma Lambda
chapters around the country.
As you can see, University College continues to be a unique home for nontraditional students at Adelphi as we continue to build on the principles of access, innovation and quality service UC was founded on 40 years ago. As always, we encourage you to stay in touch with us at uc.adelphi.edu
throughout the year.
