TV & Theatre Legend Performs on Long Island

Hal Linden
Hal Linden

The Adelphi Performing Arts Center (AU PAC) is proud to present Emmy and Tony Award winner Hal Linden, as part of the 2011-2012 guest artist series. The Bronx-born veteran performer released his debut CD Never Too Late in April, and will bring his nationally touring variety show I’m Old Fashioned, to the Adelphi Concert Hall, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY on Saturday, December 17, 2011, at 8:00 p.m.

Linden’s show will feature a diverse range of music from Broadway show stoppers to Benny Goodman jazz favorites, with some intertwining anecdotes to add a little spice. Linden will display the colorful wealth of his talents from singing to jazz clarinet. It will be quite an event when Linden brings his talented act to Long Island with his birthplace of the Bronx being just a train ride away.

With a career spanning over 65 years, Linden has found much success in varied avenues of show business. After graduating from the now famous High School of Music and Art in Manhattan, Linden went on to hone his skills in classical clarinet at Queens College, before graduating from City College of New York. Linden pursued his musical talents playing in Big Bands with Bobby Sherwood, Sammy Kaye, and Ray McKinley. Linden’s true calling however was acting and his first leading role on Broadway came in 1957 with the musical Bells Are Ringingopposite Judy Holliday. To date, he has appeared in more than 20 shows on Broadway. His highest achievement came in 1971 with The Rothschilds, earning him the Tony award for Best Actor in a Musical. Linden’s outstanding performance lead television producers to take note, and he was cast as the title role in the ABC situational comedy Barney Miller. The show ran from 1975 to 1982 and coincidentally enough, became notorious for its uncanny resemblance to a stage play due to its single set. Linden’s run in Barney Miller earned him Emmy nominations every year the show was on the air. However, it was not until 1995 when he starred in the CBS special, The Writing On The Wall, that Linden took home the statue.

Still going strong in 2011, Hal Linden has recently appeared in shows such as Hot in Cleveland, The King of Queens, and Will and Grace. Ever the seasoned aficionado of the screen and stage, Linden is sure to make I’m Old Fashioned an unforgettable evening.Critics from all over have praised his variety show calling it “A poised performance worthy of one of the great entertainers of his era” (The Milwaukee Journal), and “an evening of visual variety that was all first rate” (The Toronto Star).
