"Polls show that most want to move beyond divisiveness and show more empathy – even compassion."
By Robert A. Scott, President, Adelphi University
No matter who wins November 4th – I am writing this on All Saints’ Day, waiting for All Souls’ Day—I hope we will take the time to reflect on the $1 billion presidential campaign that lasted two years and produced mostly “sound bites” for journalists to repeat without examination.
We don’t want a nation of cynics; indeed, polls show that most want to move beyond divisiveness and show more empathy—even compassion. Yet, how can we encourage this in our young when well-paid, college-educated consultants feed slogans and slander to the crowds, knowing their words will become newsworthy.
