As we quickly approach the start of our renovation of the Ruth S. Harley University Center (UC), you may recall from previous communications that the University plans to build a temporary dining structure on the lawn between Blodgett Hall and Levermore Hall to handle much of our UC dining needs during the construction period.

Harley University Center (UC), you may recall from previous communications that the University plans to build a temporary dining structure on the lawn between Blodgett Hall and Levermore Hall to handle much of our UC dining needs during the construction period.

This significant structure—complete with seating, food service, heating and air conditioning, and restrooms—required review and approval by the Village of Garden City Planning Commission and the Village of Garden City Architecture Design Review Board (ADRB). Final approvals were granted on April 23 and construction will get under way soon after Commencement.

The temporary dining structure will seat up to 200 people and will serve many of the same foods, drinks and snacks we are accustomed to finding in UC Café, including freshly made hot food, sandwiches, pasta, make-your-own salads, and more. It will also include an Adelphi Dining Services Office where you will be able to address questions about your meal plan and reload your card. Once the structure is no longer needed, it will be deconstructed and recycled, maintaining our standards of sustainability.

We expect the temporary dining hall to be operational in August. While it is under construction, a wide array of food will continue to be available at Nexus Paws Café, the PACafé and, beginning on Tuesday, May 21, a food truck featuring grilled food such as egg sandwiches, burgers, and more will be onsite. In the fall, we expect to have two food trucks—one with halal food and one to be determined by a survey of the Adelphi community. Stay tuned for an email inviting you to complete a survey to help decide what food will be served on the second food truck!

We’ll keep everyone updated throughout the process, and remember to use your AU2GO app push notifications for Dining Services, UC Progress, and more.
