Welcome Weekend signifies the official start to an Adelphi Panther's journey. The weekend is full of memory-making events and activities, a ceremony that officially welcomes students to the academic community, and, of course, a ton of Panther pride.

Fresh off the heels of their successful virtual New Student Orientation this summer, the staff at the Center for Student Involvement (CSI) used their creativity and innovation to not only honor a campus tradition for the Class of 2024, but reimagine it for the virtual world.

“Welcome Weekend is one of the most exciting weekends of the year at Adelphi,” said Anna Zinko, director of CSI. “We know that the Class of 2024 is extraordinary, so we wanted to make sure that we celebrated their arrival into the Panther community. This year’s virtual events will give students the chance to be a part of campus traditions and help us create new ones at our Welcome Ceremony on August 30.”

This year, Welcome Weekend will take place from Friday, August 28, to Sunday, August 30, and will include:

  • A Welcome Ceremony for first-year students to officially begin their Adelphi University careers. Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students R. Sentwali Bakari, PhD, and Student Government Association President Maria Paradiso, a member of the Class of 2021, will share University traditions, and President Riordan will lead the class in a pinning ceremony.
  • Multiple opportunities to engage with student organizations and their leaders through virtual panels, student organization spotlight events and Panther Discussion Lounges
  • A variety of virtual social events for commuters and residents alike, including a Battle of the Buildings, Commuter Corner game show, a Jeopardy-style free money game show and a comedic magician
  • Mixers for affinity groups, including first-generation students, LGBTQ+ students and allies, and transfer students
Interactive virtual fitness classes and mindfulness meditation rooms to get mind and body ready for a new academic year
