The hip-hop legend and Adelphi alumnus was one of a number of lively speakers and honorary degree recipients.
Despite the dreary weather, Commencement 2013 on Sunday, May 19, was a festive occasion. Featured speaker and honorary degree recipient Carlton Douglas Ridenhour ’84, ’13 (Hon.) (better known as Chuck D (@MrChuckD)of Public Enemy) energized the crowd with a passionate oration in which he lauded the graduates for their accomplishments and claimed that they “got the real swagger.” President Robert A. Scott, Ph.D., encouraged members of the Class of 2013 to continue being the “authors of your life…revising and improving your script even as you live it.”
Besides Chuck D, Adelphi honored three notables with honorary degrees: parent educator Doreen Downs Miller, M.B.A. ’86, Rocky actor Burt Young and the founder and chairman emeritus of Mitchell & Titus Bert Mitchell. You can find a video of the entire event and a photo gallery at the Commencement 2013 Web page.
