A graduate of Adelphi’s M.S. in Emergency Management program, Brendan Beebe ’05, M.S. ’12, extolls its benefits—it changed the course of his career and enriched his life. “I had a very positive experience with the program,” he said. “It’s a wonderful choice for any student interested in a new and exciting field.”

Mr. Beebe first became interested in the M.S. in Emergency Management after receiving his bachelor’s degree in business and communications from Adelphi in 2005. He was an operations manager in the telecommunications sector for more than 10 years, but began exploring new career paths.  He stumbled upon the emergency management program at Adelphi and was immediately taken by the curriculum and the faculty profiles. Mr. Beebe eventually enrolled, and he enjoyed being back at Adelphi right from the start.

He learned from faculty who were professionals in the diverse fields involved in emergency management, including healthcare, legal and emergency services.  He benefited from their industry knowledge and expertise in the field, and their well-rounded approach went well beyond ordinary classroom instruction.

“The relationships I formed through the program, along with my professional experience, ultimately provided me an opportunity in the field of emergency management,” Mr. Beebe said. His emergency management degree led to a job offer from a newly formed not-for-profit homeland security facility. Currently, he serves as the facility’s deputy executive director, running the day-to-day operations and working regularly with many of his former classmates and teachers.

“The program provided me with the tools and education to break into the field and stay competitive in today’s job market,” Mr. Beebe said. “The teachers, administrators and former students, including myself, take great pride in the program and its future success.”
