Anne-Marie Bedney, violinist and violist, received both her Bachelors and Masters Degrees from the Manhattan School of Music. Originally from Washington D.C., where she began her musical studies, she was awarded an apprenticeship with the National Symphony Orchestra, and also won full scholarships to both the Tanglewood Institute & Aspen Music Festival. Since moving to New York, Bedney has been an active freelancer, and has worked with the Brooklyn Philharmonic, Greenwich Symphony, Philharmonia Virtuosi, Queens Symphony, Westchester Symphony, Long Island Philharmonic, New York Virtuosi, the American Symphony Orchestra and various other professional ensembles.
Bedney has participated in many commercial, film and CD recordings, working with such artists as Tony Bennett, Aretha Franklin, Alicia Keys, Common, Kevin Kline, George Benson, Kenny Latimer, Julie Andrews, Liza Minnelli, Johnny Mathis, Sean Puffy Combs, Smokey Robinson and many others. In addition she has participated in many local events such as the MTV awards, the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, and several segments of the David Letterman Show. Bedney has also worked on Broadway, in such shows as Victor Victoria, The Scarlet Pimpernel, 1776, Sound of Music, High Society, Triumph of Love, Captains Courageous, Swan Lake, and several others.
Throughout her career, Bedney has enjoyed teaching as well. For more than 25 years, she has taught in various schools as well as in her private studio. She has also participated in many educational programs that bring music into New York City schools such as the Goliard Ensemble, the West End Symphony and the Long Island String Quartet.
Bedney is married, has four children, and currently resides in Elmont, NY. She has been a part of the Adelphi faculty since 2012.
