Adelphi has been playing an important role in Central Nassau Guidance and Counseling, Inc.’s efforts in Nassau County to provide integrated physical and mental health services to people with mental illness. Now it is doing the same in New York City, tapped by program director Rebecca Krakauer of the Upper Manhattan Mental Health Center, Inc. to assist with its Health Integration Program.
The new program aims to provide integrated services to improve the physical health of up to 1,400 adults with serious mental illness, who often have severe primary care conditions and chronic diseases as well as substance abuse disorders.
Adelphi faculty members Dr. Philip Rozario and Dr. Chrisann Newransky are working as evaluators, managing and analyzing data to assess the program’s effectiveness. Participation provides their students valuable training and experience in data management and analysis, as well as opportunities to add to scholarship on integrated care for people with mental illness.
