Showcasing works on paper, ceramic and bronze sculptures and paintings acquired within the last five years.

The Adelphi University Exhibitions Program is pleased to present Recent Acquisitions from the Adelphi University Art Collection. This exhibition will showcase works on paper, ceramic and bronze sculptures and paintings acquired within the last five years. The exhibit will be on view from August 23 through September 19, 2012 in the Ruth S. Harley University Center Gallery. A free reception will be held on September 12, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Recent Acquisitions from the Adelphi University Art Collection features works such as: Evelyn Wilson ceramic sculptures of mother and child, donated by her daughter Joanne Jaffe; a Nathanial Kaz sculpture entitled Cyrano, an edition of three, one of which was exhibited by the Whitney Museum in the 1960s, donated by Helen Goldberg; and several works by graduating seniors that were purchased by the University from students who received the Presidential Award for Outstanding Artistic Excellence.

The Adelphi University Art Collection boasts an impressive collection of more than 1100 individual works ranging from paintings, works on paper, sculpture, ceramics, musical instruments, and African ceremonial implements. Each year, the Exhibitions Program mounts an exhibition showcasing select works from: the Frederick and Claire Mebel Collection of African implements; to paintings and works on paper by W.P.A. era artists like Julian Levi, Stephan Dohanos and Dong Kingman; and sculptures by Raoul Hague and Charles Morrongiello.

The Ruth S. Harley University Center Gallery is open Monday through Friday, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This exhibition features a glimpse of the University’s holdings.
