For the fifth year running, the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) has presented Adelphi University Assistant Professor of Music Sidney M. Boquiren with an ASCAPLUS Award for 2010-2011. The award, granted by an independent panel of experts from assorted musical fields, recognizes both the “unique prestige value” of his catalog as well as premieres and performances of Dr. Boquiren’s original work over the last year.

Audiences at Adelphi University were treated to two of Dr. Boquiren’s innovative recent pieces at a well-received concert in Adelphi’s Performing Arts Center (AU PAC) on October 16, 2010. The works, entitled Odes to Earth & Air and We Will Not Be Silent, were typical of his repertoire in drawing upon an array of styles and media, including poetry, opera, emotional improvisation, video accompaniment, and digitally processed audio playback.

Music lovers will have another opportunity to experience the premier of one of Dr. Boquiren’s new compositions at Adelphi’s New Music VI featuring NOISE, a San Diego-based ensemble of accomplished soloists committed to contemporary chamber music. The event will take place on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 8:00 p.m. in the AU PAC Concert Hall, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY.

Individual tickets for the performance are $10-$15. To learn more about AU PAC’s 2010-2011 season, please visit pac.adelphi.edu or call the AU PAC Box Office at 516.877.4000.
