Discussion focused on business analytics to predict future needs

by France Fan ’14, biology major

On September 21, 2012, Adelphi University faculty and staff, including Dean Barbara Nemecek of the School of Business, held a meeting for the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP). More than 90 members of AITP’s Long Island chapter gathered for a presentation by Karen Parish, Vice President at IBM. Ms. Parish discussed business analytics, which is the way in which technological data can be analyzed and used to predict future needs. Business analytics is not only used by companies seeking to make better decisions, but also by city planners, first responders, and educators.

Barbara Viola, Adelphi alumnae and president of AITP-Long Island, was also in attendance. She and other IT professionals currently with the University are seeking to establish a student AITP chapter at Adelphi; such an organization would provide great benefits and opportunities for many students in computer science, education, and multiple other fields.
