The 14th annual President’s Gala will honor Trustee Loretta V. Cangialosi ’80, Bernard E. Clair ’73 and Trustee Jeffrey R. Greene.
Adelphi University is proud to announce its 14th annual President’s Gala to be held on March 22, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at the Garden City Hotel, 45 Seventh Street, Garden City, NY. The evening will honor: Trustee Loretta V. Cangialosi ’80, Bernard E. Clair ’73 and Trustee Jeffrey R. Greene with a cocktail reception followed by dinner and dancing. The Gala supports the University’s ability to remain competitive in attracting the brightest and most qualified students by funding the scholarships and institutional aid awarded by the University, which total over $50million annually.
Honorees
Loretta V. Cangialosi ’80 will be honored with the Outstanding Alumna award. Ms. Cangialosi is the Senior Vice President and Controller at Pfizer Inc., the world’s largest biopharmaceutical company headquartered in New York. She joined Pfizer in 1993 and held positions within the controller division before her promotion to senior vice president and election as controller in 1999. Ms. Cangialosi provides leadership and guidance for a wide range of business development and finance activities within the company. Her other volunteer involvement includes serving as chair of the Financial Executives International Committee on Corporate Reporting and serving on the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board’s Standing Advisory Group. Prior to joining Pfizer, Ms. Cangialosi was a senior manager with KPMG in its New York Audit Group. In 2013, she was elected to the Adelphi University Board of Trustees. A generous benefactor of the University, she has established the Loretta Cangialosi Endowed Scholarship, which provides financial support to Adelphi students who demonstrate financial need. She earned a bachelor’s of business administration from Adelphi and M.B.A. from New York University Stern School of Business.
Bernard E. Clair ’73, Co-Founder at Cohen Clair Lans Greifer & Thorpe LLP, will receive the Outstanding Alumnus award. Cohen Clair Lans Greifer & Thorpe LLP, a Manhattan matrimonial law firm, has been recognized by both Martindale and U.S. News & World Report as one of the “Top Ranked” and “Tier-1” law firms specializing in family law. Mr. Clair has been named one of New York’s “Best Lawyers” by New York Magazine; recognized as a “Best Lawyer in America” in the area of family law; and acknowledged as one of the country’s “10 Lawyers You Don’t Want Representing Your Spouse In a Divorce” by Business Insider. Since October 1999, he has held the position of Chairman of the Editorial Board of the New York Family Law Monthly. Mr. Clair’s clients through the years have included well known celebrities and high net worth individuals, and their spouses. He has been involved in precedent setting cases and has lectured before the Bar, as well as appeared as an expert or as the profiled attorney of record on national television. In addition to his active practice, Mr. Clair has co-authored three books: LOVE PACT—A Layman’s Complete Guide to Legal Living Together Agreements (Grove Press); Consultation with a Divorce Lawyer (Simon & Schuster); and The Ex-Factor (Warner Books). As part of his commitment to the next generation of lawyers, Mr. Clair actively participates in the mentoring programs for Adelphi University and St. John’s Law School. He received his bachelor’s degree from Adelphi and J.D. from St. John’s Law School.
Jeffrey R. Greene, Global Transactions Leader, Life Sciences at Ernst & Young, LLP, will receive the Outstanding Executive award. Mr. Greene, known for his expertise in corporate finance, has had a distinguished career with Ernst & Young since 1993. He has a strong record of originating and executing critical financial opinions for mergers and acquisitions, financings and restructurings. In his current position, he is responsible for building solutions for leading global companies to accelerate their transaction strategies. He also chairs the Innovation Committee to organize thought leadership and new service development. He has held positions as global vice chair of corporate finance, U.S. national director of corporate finance and U.S. national director of valuation advisors. Prior to joining Ernst & Young, Mr. Greene was a managing director at Houlihan, Lokey, Howard & Zukin, an international investment bank where he led teams in selling and delivering financial options for major transactions and litigation. Throughout his career, Mr. Greene has authored articles and book chapters on valuation, due diligence, and performance management. Mr. Greene joined the Adelphi University Board of Trustees in 2005. He holds a B.A. in physics (summa cum laude) from Dartmouth College and a M.B.A. from Harvard University.
