Trauma and The Nervous System: The Mind-Body Connection Part 2
Event Actions
Trauma affects both the mind and the body, potentially leaving lasting effects on the brain, nervous system, and overall well-being. It can change how people handle stress, regulate emotions, and store memories.
Overview
This workshop builds on Trauma & The Nervous System, Part 1 and takes a closer look at trauma through the lens of brain science, polyvagal theory, and the brain’s ability to heal and adapt (neuroplasticity). We will also focus on strengths, protective factors, and client resources as important parts of recovery.
Participants will learn ways to assess for trauma and more advanced effective tools for calming and supporting the nervous system. This workshop will also cover vicarious trauma in clinicians, offering practical strategies to build resilience and stay grounded in the therapy room. Attendees will leave with a toolkit of science-based, body-focused, and strengths-based techniques that can be used to support both clients and themselves.
CEs: 3
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

- Identify assessment tools and apply body-based regulation techniques that help clients access protective factors, strengths, and resources in trauma treatment.
- Demonstrate strategies for recognizing and addressing clinician vicarious trauma and countertransference, while practicing regulation tools that support professional resilience.
