Vincent-Wang

Dean Vincent Wei-cheng Wang is the Dean of College of Arts and Sciences, and a Professor of Political Science and International Relations at Adelphi University in New York City. He is a Senior Fellow in the Foreign Policy Research Institute’s Asia Program (Philadelphia). He will join us for a regional specialist talk on the Taiwan (ROC) – mainland China (PRC) relationship.

The question of whether Taiwan (ROC) and mainland China (PRC) will achieve constructive negotiations for a “One Country, Two Systems” political framework remains complex and uncertain. The Taiwanese government, under the continuing leadership of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), has consistently rejected the “One China Principle”, viewing it as incompatible with Taiwan’s democratic system and as a threat to its sovereignty. On January 13, 2024, the DPP candidate won the presidency again, indicating continued support for maintaining Taiwan’s separate identity as a sovereign state independent from mainland China. In forward-looking, will this divided China struggle be peacefully moderated?
