Plan Backward, Teach Forward: Aligning Goals, Learning and Evidence
Event Actions
Ready to elevate your course planning with greater clarity, coherence, and purpose?
This workshop offers a comprehensive introduction to the full backward design process, beginning with how to craft SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) learning objectives that clearly articulate what students should know and be able to do. From there, participants will explore how to intentionally align course content, learning activities, and assessments to ensure that every element of the course directly supports those objectives.
The session also examines how well‑designed assessments serve as evidence of learning, helping instructors determine whether objectives have been met and where instructional adjustments may be needed. In addition, we will look at how generative AI tools can assist with drafting objectives, designing aligned activities, and streamlining the overall course planning process.
