Coach David discusses his career journey and shares career-building advice and insights with students and alumni.

David Akinyooye ’11 started his career journey as a student-athlete playing Men’s Basketball for Adelphi University. He played professional basketball for the Springfield Armor before transitioning into a coaching position for the New York Knicks from 2012 to 2013. In 2013-2014, he served as a player development assistant for the San Antonio Spurs. In 2014-2015, David coached overseas for France’s ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne. From 2015 to 2019, he served as an assistant coach for the Oklahoma City Blue.
Since 2019, David has served as an assistant coach for the 2025 NBA Champion Oklahoma City Thunder. David also serves on Adelphi University’s Student Affairs Advisory Board.

This event is part of the Leadership Certificate Program (LCP) for Adelphi University undergraduate and graduate students. It provides opportunities to develop leadership and professional skills.
