Constitution Day commemorates the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution by thirty-nine brave men on September 17, 1787, recognizing all who are born in the U.S. or by naturalization, have become citizens.

Congressman Gregory W. Meeks is the lead Democrat of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, a Senior member of the House Financial Services Committee, and is known for being an effective, principled, and common-sense leader.
Ranking Member Meeks is a multilateralist with decades of experience in foreign policy. He believes that the United States should build coalitions around our interests and work with other countries to build a stable and prosperous future.
Elected in 1998, Ranking Member Meeks represents Southeast Queens and parts of Nassau County, notably one of the most diverse counties in the nation. Prior to coming to Congress, he served in the New York State Assembly and worked as a Queens County Assistant District Attorney as a prosecutor for a special anti-narcotics taskforce.
Rep. Meeks is married to Simone-Marie Meeks. He has three daughters – Ebony, Aja, and Nia-Aiyana and four granddaughters. He earned his bachelor’s degree in history from Adelphi University and his law degree from Howard University. He is the co-chair of the JFK Redevelopment Community Advisory Council and a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
