Professor Karen E. Smith, Professor of International Relations at the London School of Economics and Political Science and Director of the LSE IDEAS Women in Diplomacy project will present insights from a global research project exploring and advancing gender equality in diplomacy.

This event showcases the LSE IDEAS Women in Diplomacy project at the London School of Economics, which engages in global dialogues with diplomats to uncover barriers and factors that support women’s leadership in national diplomatic services and international organizations.

The project’s first report published in 2024, Strengthening the Representation of Women in Diplomacy: Challenges and Policy Solutions, investigates why women make up less than 25% of diplomatic staff globally and proposes actionable policy recommendations to improve gender equality in diplomacy.
