Date & Time: November 6 9:00am – 4:00pm
Location: Virtual

Join Dr. Victoria Grinman for an interactive workshop about the utility of yoga and mindfulness in working with children and teens with traumatic stress.

Participants will delve into traumatic stress and its relationship to the behaviors we encounter in kids and teens. Discussion will include the ways in which traumatic stress interacts with the mind-body-brain integration that is crucial for focus, overall health, successful relationships, and living with joy.

You will leave inspired, empowered and resourced with effective and accessible tools and strategies grounded in movement, yoga, and mindfulness that can be shared with kids and teens in a variety of environments and situations—off the mat! Kids with differences in abilities who are supported in a seated position can have access to yogic activity through modified strategies. Many of the environments that kids spend their time in are not set up for yoga on a mat or floor—school classrooms, buses, cars, airports, you name it! In order for kids to be equipped with strategies that they can take with them anywhere they go, practitioners need to be prepared to offer simple and sustainable movement strategies that respond to the fast-paced and packed days our kids are navigating daily. No prior experience with yoga is necessary.

Learning Objectives

As a result of this workshop, participants will be better able to:

  1. Understand the brain, mind, and body connection.
  2. Understand how traumatic stress impacts children’s and teens’ learning and other daily functions.
  3. Identify the benefits of using mindfulness, movement, and chair yoga practices in clinical settings, agencies, schools, and group or individualized therapy with children.
  4. Implement a variety of practices to use with their child and/or teen clients.
