Social and Ballroom Dancing
This course offers an opportunity to gain experience in social / ballroom dancing. It is an excellent choice for those looking to develop fundamental dance skills as well as building on previous experience.
This course offers an opportunity to gain experience in social and ballroom dancing. It is an excellent choice for those looking to develop fundamental dance skills as well as build on previous experience.
The instructor will break down all dance figures and combine them into complete dance routines. Best practice syllabus-based techniques in timing, foot positions, alignment, footwork, and lead and follow will be demonstrated.
This class is suitable for first-time dancers as well as those with previous experience. It is designed to build confidence and enhance social enjoyment on the dance floor. Social dancing gives you a more positive outlook on life.
Enrollment with a partner is recommended, but singles are always welcome. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and leather-bottom shoes or dance shoes. Sneakers or other rubber-bottom shoes are not recommended for safety reasons.
Candidate dances include: Foxtrot, Rumba, Waltz, Cha Cha, Tango, Bolero, Hustle, Swing and Merengue.
Registration
Sign up for ballroom dancing classes online. The class is limited to a maximum of 24 participants.
- $75 per person for all 11 sessions for Adelphi community members and their dance partners
- $125 per person for all 11 sessions for general admission
There are no refunds unless the course is canceled. Payment for non-credit courses cannot be applied to future university credit courses.

Additional Requirements
- Clothing: Participants should wear comfortable clothing.
- Dance Shoes: The studio is equipped with a special dance floor. Only non-marring dance shoes that have not been worn outdoors may be used. Suede soles are preferred, and heels should not exceed 2 inches. Socks are also acceptable. Dance shoes can be purchased from Applause Dancewear in New Hyde Park, ordered from Showtime Dance Shoes, or purchased from another dance shoe retailer. Ballet slippers or dance sneakers are acceptable as long as they are not used for streetwear.
- Food and Drink: No food or beverages are permitted in the room other than bottled water.
