SOC 203: Contemporary Sociological Theories

This course focuses on sociological theorists working from the mid 20th century to contemporary time. Emphasis is on the application of sociological theory to empirical data, normative assumptions, and to specific social issues and social behavior.

1. Students will describe four significant theoretical approaches in sociology; 2. Students will apply these approaches in the analysis of the structure of society and its institutions 3. Students will recognize theoretical frameworks and interpret how they influence underlying assumptions and conclusions in the analysis of social issues. 4. Students will conduct critical sociological analyses about historical and contemporary, local and global social issues.
