Our House is on Fire: A Multiple Systems Approach to Couple Therapy in a Time of Climate Breakdown and Sociopolitical Uncertainties
Event Actions
In this two-hour workshop, Dr. Wendy Greenspun will apply a multiple-systems framework to consider these complexities from various viewpoints, drawing on psychodynamic and systemic understandings to foster more productive communication, repair ruptures and embrace multiple viewpoints in our couples work.
As we find ourselves mired in multiple layers of uncertainty and alarm, including the unfolding climate and ecological crisis, ongoing sociocultural harms and emergent political upheaval, how do we as couple therapists work with these realities as they emerge in the clinical landscape?
The workshop will include case examples, discussion and small group discussion to help participants grapple experientially with these complicated issues.
This workshop is part of the Couple Therapy Series.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this seminar series, participants will be able to:
- Describe aspects of their emotional responses in the face of unfolding climate and political disruption, as well as ways to remain grounded when these emerge as countertransference reactions in working with couples.
