This introductory class explores the foundational principles of attachment theory and its application to understanding adult relational styles.

Participants will learn to analyze how these patterns manifest in relationships and clinical settings. Through lectures, case vignettes, group discussions, and guided readings, participants will deepen their ability to recognize attachment-related behaviors and consider their implications.

This workshop is part of the Couple Therapy Series.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this seminar series, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the core concepts of Attachment theory.
  2. Identify the four primary adult attachment styles.
  3. Recognize how attachment patterns shape relationship dynamics.
  4. Apply foundational principles of attachment theory to clinical case examples focusing on couple/relational dynamics.

Valerie Levy, LCSW

Valerie Levy, LCSW, is a member of the American Association for Psychoanalysis in Clinical Social Work (AAPCSW) and serves as a supervisor and faculty member at the Training and Research Institute for Mental Health (TIMH), where she is also Co-Chair of the TIMH Psychoanalytic Society. She is a member of the Auxiliary Board of Mount Sinai Hospital.

Her research interests focus on the intersection of feminism, motherhood, gender and privilege in the lives of individuals and couples. She maintains a private practice in New York City.
