Date & Time: November 6–13 11:00am – 1:30pm
Location: Hybrid, Flex or in-person in NYC

Some relationships never officially begin or have the opportunity to unfold, yet leave us grieving as though they had. What makes certain impossible relationships so difficult to relinquish?

This course examines the psychology of emotional unavailability and unrequited love through multiple theoretical lenses, exploring what these relationships come to represent, what is truly being mourned, and how clinicians can help facilitate healing, growth and transformation.

This workshop is part of the Couple Therapy Series.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this seminar series, participants will be able to:

  1. Differentiate emotional unavailability, unrequited love, limerence, and related
    relational phenomena.
  2. Compare multiple theoretical perspectives used to understand emotional
attachment to unavailable or unattainable partners.
  3. Identify the psychological meanings and functions that emotionally unavailable or unrequited love may serve.
  4. Apply integrative clinical formulations to assess what clients may be mourning and what these relationships have come to represent.
  5. Implement theoretically informed interventions that facilitate mourning, healing,
    growth, and psychological integration.
