Working with Athletes: A Trauma-Informed, Mastery-Based Approach for Clinicians
Event Actions
This training is designed for clinicians who are interested in working with, or currently work with, athletes of all ages, in therapeutic or performance settings.
Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the athlete mentality and the unique psychological and relational dynamics of high-performance sports. The series will introduce trauma-informed care principles tailored to athletic environments, alongside practical tools for fostering self-awareness, self-acceptance, and resilience in athletes and coaches. Clinicians will also learn foundational performance psychology skills rooted in a mindful, mastery-based development model.
Course Learning Objectives
Workshop 1: Whole-Person Athletics Evolution
January 13 from 9:30am – 11:30am EST
Objective: Participants will understand the history and dynamics of the “athlete mentality.”
Workshop 2: Trauma-Informed Approach in Sports
January 20 from 9:30am – 11:30am EST
Objective: Participants will understand how trauma-informed care is integrated through the lens of mastery development theory in sports.
Workshop 3: Building Athlete Self-Awareness
January 27 from 9:30am – 12:30pm EST
Objectives: Participants will learn:
- human development in relation to athlete development, and
- learn 3 helpful tools (P-E-M, P-R-R, and F.A.I.L.) to share with the athlete community
Workshop 4: Mindful Athlete Development
February 3 from 9:30am – 12:30pm EST
Objectives: Participants will learn:
- Mastery Mindset skill – the long game
- Mastery Mindset skill – goal setting
- Receiving and Giving Feedback (“being coachable”)
- Re-Center, Re-Focus, Re-Evaluate cycle
- Rest and Recovery
- Personal Energy Cycle

Faculty Bio
Laura Hahn-Segundo Collins, LCSW, CCCE

Laura Hahn-Segundo Collins is a clinical social worker, educator, and former elite athlete with over 20 years of leadership in trauma-informed care, mental health integration, and community wellness. She is known as The Athlete Psychotherapist and creator of The AP Method, a training series designed to support healing and mastery in high-performance and athletic communities. Laura has held executive clinical roles in NYC-based health systems and nonprofits, and frequently speaks on the intersection of identity, trauma, and resilience. Her work bridges performance, social justice, and whole-person mental health across disciplines.

Please note that we cannot offer refunds for cancellations made within seven business days of the event or for no-shows. However, if you notify us at least 24 hours in advance, we can issue a credit toward a future workshop. No credit will be provided for cancellations made less than 24 hours before the event
