By 2030, one in six people will be over 60. Aging is not just biological—it’s social, equitable, and purposeful. Strong leadership is vital to ensure longer lives are healthy and fulfilling.

The Institute of Lifelong Wellbeing and Longevity at the Ruth S. Ammon College of Education and Health Sciences invites you to the Leadership Forum on Successful Aging and Longevity, a full-day workshop bringing together global experts advancing the science, policy and practice of healthy aging.

This workshop will:

  • Explore frailty, cognitive health, loneliness, and advocacy.
  • Learn from faculty and global partners.
  • Connect across health, education, and social sciences.
  • Earn a Certificate of Completion.

Hariklia Proios, President of the Stroke Alliance for Europe (SAFE), is a leading advocate for stroke education and early detection through the FAST Heroes program. She serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the Ruth S. Ammon College of Education and Health Sciences at Adelphi University.

Nicola Anderson

Nicola Anderson is an Account Executive at Salesforce, specializing in enterprise software solutions for wealth and asset management. With a background spanning Salesforce, ADP, and Sequoia Consulting Group, she combines data-driven strategy and relationship management to drive client growth. She holds a Bachelor of Business in Economics and Management from the University of Technology, Sydney.

Jan van der Merwe

Jan van der Merwe

Jan van der Merwe, Co-Founder and Global Project Lead of the Angels Initiative, leads the world’s largest stroke-focused community. He has driven the international expansion of Angels and supported hospitals worldwide in strengthening their stroke-care systems. Jan also co-founded the award-winning FAST Heroes project, through which more than a million families have learned to recognize the signs of stroke and call an ambulance.

With over 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry across South Africa and Germany, he holds degrees in Human Movement Sciences and Marketing, as well as an MBA from Henley Business School.
