Long Island’s premiere destination for the arts, the Adelphi University Performing Arts Center (AUPAC), will celebrate its 5th anniversary season. Since its debut, the AUPAC has become the place to see world-class artists in an intimate atmosphere. The 2012—2013 season features the greatest entertainers and legends in music, dance, and theatre.

Season highlights include 10-time Grammy award-winning musician Bobby McFerrin, acclaimed modern dance company RIOULT, Tony award winner Christine Ebersole and legendary performance artist Laurie Anderson, among others. Audiences will also enjoy popular return engagements by the Jupiter String Quartet and Trio Solisti, along with a wide variety of family friendly entertainment including student and faculty concerts and productions.

Opera and Ballet in Cinema Series
September 8 and 9

Season five kicks off with an all-new film series utilizing a new 30-foot screen and high definition projector with surround sound in the Concert Hall. In collaboration with Emerging Pictures, AUPAC will present productions direct from Europe’s best opera and ballet houses. The series begins with the timeless classic The Sleeping Beauty recorded live at The Royal Ballet, England and Norma recorded live at the Teatro Antico Taormina, Italy. The Jupiter String Quartet returns to the AUPAC for their fifth season as an ensemble in residence.  For their fall concert, the acclaimed quartet will present an uplifting and lighthearted evening featuring the music of Haydn, Bartok and Brahms.  In the spring, they will premiere a new string quartet by Adelphi composer Sidney Marquez Boquiren.

In Dirtday!, legendary musician and performance artist Laurie Anderson uses her unique story-telling ability to depict contemporary America, encompassing politics, desire, portraits of cities and people. The evening’s program will feature electric violin, keyboards and electronics. Solo violin pieces such as Grammy nominated “Flow” from Homeland will mix with filler electronic soundscapes to create an intimate look into what has made Anderson one of the most original American song writers.

For one night only, 10-time Grammy award-winning musician, Bobby McFerrin brings his latest project, spirit you all to the AUPAC. This performance will mark the show’s debut on Long Island. McFerrin’s latest work, influenced by the spirituals of his father, is a celebration of the strength of generations of Americans. His band’s world renowned performances are marked by their musicianship, community spirit and pure fun. In spirit you all, McFerrin will delight with joyful new takes on familiar tunes and send listeners home singing.


Blyth Daylong, executive director for the AUPAC noted, “In addition to our fantastic lineup of guest artists, the students of Adelphi University will be performing renowned works by Bertolt Brecht, Maurice Ravel, Martha Graham, Johannes Brahms and Wendy Wasserstein, among others.”  In the spirit of their fifth season, the AUPAC is introducing a new student discount program. Students of all ages will be able to purchase up to two tickets to departmental productions at a discounted price of $5.00, as long as they have a valid student ID card.
