Policy

Adelphi Shuttle Buses

Adelphi University’s Panther Express service provides shuttle bus transportation to local transportation centers, supermarkets, retail stores and entertainment destinations.

Shuttle schedules are adjusted in coordination with the MTA / LIRR schedule.  Shuttle schedules are available online and on the AU mobile app.  Printed copies are available at the public safety office in Levermore Hall, Suite 113.

Bus Rentals

All transportation requests must be made one (1) month in advance if possible through the University’s Footprints Work Order System by an authorized employee as designated by the department head. Cost information is included on the Footprints work order system.

For students who wish to make a transportation request:

  • Requesting a Trip for a Student Organization [CSCE/Greek Life]?  Speak to your student involvement adviser
  • Requesting a Trip for an Honor Society? Go to your honor society adviser or adviser’s department head
  • Requesting a Trip for another group? Get in touch with your employer, advisor, department chair, etc. to request a trip.

For employees who wish to make a transportation request:

  • If you have access to the Footprints Work Order System, you can request the trip through your employee eCampus Account.
  • If you do not have access to the Footprints Work Order System, you can go to your department head, or designee, and request for them to enter the trip. Please provide the following information for them to submit the trip:
    • Name of Destination
    • Address
    • Contact Information
    • Departure Date/Time
    • Date/Time Departing Destination
    • Number of Passengers
    • Public Safety Driver Needed
    • Description or other information.

To gain authorized access to the Footprints Work Order System:

  • If you are an employee, you can discuss with your Department Head, or designee, on gaining access to the system. If approved, the Department Head, or designee, will contact the Transportation Manager to provide access.
  • Students do not have access to the Footprints Work Order System.

Bus Rental Cost

There is a 4 hour minimum for each trip and a 2 hour minimum for local & airports (JFK and LGA only) trips, with exceptions. The following costs apply:

  • $60.00 per hour operating cost, including pre-and post-trip prep. 
  • Vehicle Fees
    • Bus $500 per day – includes 50 miles per day. After 50 miles, 75 cents per mile is accumulated
      • A bus can hold up to 40 passengers
    • Van $300 per day – includes 50 miles per day. After 50 miles, 75 cents per mile is accumulated
      • A van can hold 14 to 20 passengers 
  • Clean up fee ($50.00) – ONLY IF INDICATED, 
  • Meal fee ($10.00) – if the driver worked 8 hours or more!
  • Toll fees (cost reflected on our EZ Pass)

If you have any questions at all on the charges, refer them to the Assistant Director of Transportation and Parking Services.

Bus Rental Restrictions

The following restrictions apply to Adelphi bus rentals: 

  • There is no interstate travel
  • There is no travel greater than 50 miles. 

The following exceptions apply to the above restrictions: If there is a University Approved Driver, in lieu of a Public Safety Driver, the interstate travel and travel greater than 50 miles can be considered dependent on shuttle bus availability and duration of the trip requested

511NY Rideshare is an easy-to-use, reliable, cost-effective way to find a travel companion—for trips to the campus or off-campus. Whether you go by car, van, bike or public transportation, or on foot, you won’t have to go alone.

Rideshare provides direct access to a pool of potential travel partners based on similar routes and schedules. Use the Event Matching feature to find a partner for any one-time trip—a ride into New York City for a night out, even a ride home during spring break.

Guaranteed Ride Program

The Guaranteed Ride Program is a unique solution that offers registered employees up to four paid taxi rides per calendar year in the event of unforeseen circumstances and/or their transportation from work is unexpectedly unavailable.  This service is sponsored by 511NY Rideshare.
