It is the University’s policy to forbid distribution of advertising material, commercial or charitable solicitations, merchandise catalogs, handbills, or materials of a political or potentially adversarial nature on the premises.

It is the University’s policy to forbid distribution of advertising material, commercial or charitable solicitations, merchandise catalogs, handbills, or materials of a political or potentially adversarial nature on the premises.
Reason for Policy
This policy was established to inform Faculty and Professional Staff Members and Students about the University’s policy to prohibit peddling, canvassing, soliciting, and distribution of literature of any kind on the University premises during work time.

Policy
Except as otherwise required by applicable law, employees may not distribute literature or printed materials of any kind, solicit financial contributions or solicit for any other cause during working time, in the interests of maintaining a professional business environment and preventing interference with work and inconvenience to others. Employees who are not on working time may not solicit employees who are on working time for any cause or distribute literature of any kind to them. This policy also prohibits solicitations via the University’s e-mail and other telephonic communication systems.
The sale of merchandise including, but not limited to, food, books, publications, or services of any kind on Adelphi property is prohibited, except as approved in writing by the Office of Business Affairs.
Auxiliary and Event Services operations (e.g. the University Bookstore, the Child Activity Center, student organizations and AU food services) are not restricted by this policy.
If a supervisor has knowledge that an employee is soliciting co-workers or students without getting the appropriate permission, the supervisor should inform the employee of the solicitation policy and instruct the employee to stop the practice until they get the proper approval.
