Policy Statement

Gifts raised by the Office of University Advancement and External Relations help Adelphi to carry out its mission to transform the lives of all its students. The University welcomes all gifts that support general operating costs, help build the endowment and fund a variety of special purposes that reflect both the needs of the University and the interests of its donors.

Reason for Policy

The intent of this policy is to provide Adelphi University’s leadership, faculty, staff and volunteers with guidelines that enable them to assist prospective donors, their families and advisors in making gifts to the University. By defining Comprehensive and Capital Campaign fundraising requirements for accepting such gifts, these guidelines will facilitate the appropriate use and accountability of gifts received by Adelphi University.

Policy

All comprehensive and capital campaigns will have well-defined priorities that identify specific naming opportunities for donors. All campaigns must be approved by Adelphi’s Board of Trustees. Over the course of the campaign, the priorities and associated naming opportunities may evolve from those originally established, upon approval of the Board of Trustees.

For all comprehensive and capital campaigns, Adelphi will follow the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) standards:

  • Statement of Ethics
  • Principles of Practice for each of the Advancement Disciplines of Fundraising, Alumni Relations and Communications and Marketing, and the Donor Bill or Rights.
  • Global Reporting Standards
  • Global Management Guidelines

As recommended by CASE with regards to gift reporting:

  • Adelphi will develop campaign and gift reporting policies in consultation with the Board of Trustees, key advisory groups and executive leadership which will adhere to CASE Global Reporting Standards for each campaign it undertakes.
  • The campaign and gift reporting policies will be transparent and publicly available to internal and external audiences.
