How to Recognize Phishing Attempts
Phishing messages are designed to trick you into sharing information, clicking malicious links or taking unsafe actions. Look for these common warning signs.
Attackers may use fake Google Forms to collect passwords, banking details or other sensitive information.
This form was hosted on a non-Adelphi domain and asks for your password, which is proof it’s not legitimate.
Red Flag: The form’s domain is not hosted by Adelphi.
Reminder: Always scroll to the bottom of a Google Form to check its domain.
Official Adelphi messages are sent directly to you or through official distribution lists, not to large groups of unrelated recipients.
Red Flag: The message in this example was sent to hundreds of unrelated email addresses.
Links may appear legitimate but direct you to a website outside Adelphi.
Red Flag: Hovering over a link shows the URL does not match the text in the email.
Phishing emails may include fake phone numbers, email addresses or contact details. Verify contact information before responding.
Red Flag: The phone number and email that were listed are incorrect.
Phishing messages often create a sense of urgency by asking you to immediately reset your password, verify your account or provide personal information.
Never send your username, password or confidential information by email.
