Dr. Sofya Lyakhova is a practicing artist and a mathematician from Swansea University, Swansea, UK.

About the Speaker

Sofya Lyakhova, PhD

She was born in Russia where she received a BSc in Mathematics. Dr. Lyakhova holds a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Bristol, UK and a mathematics teacher qualification from Swansea Metropolitan University, UK. She joined the Swansea University Mathematics Department in 2010 as a Program Leader of the pilot program “Further Mathematics Support Program Wales”, a national government-funded program aimed to encourage more students to study mathematics post-16. Dr. Lyakhova’s interest in art also started early. She is a graduate of the Fine Art School in Voronezh (Russia) where she studied painting, drawing, sculpture and art history. She is currently working on developing a new module entitled Art and Mathematics for the mathematics undergraduates at Swansea University.
