Safe Place International is one of a growing number of international non-profit organizations that are seeking to support LGBTQIA+ refugees to realize their dreams of safety and life.

This presentation is about that organization’s educational program, The Dream Academy, the partnership with Adelphi University, and the research of the Dream Academy’s impact.

Dr. Devin Thornburg leads this event in two parts The first half will be an overview of the organization and program, led by the Founder, Justin Hilton, and the Chief Designers Yvonne and Richard Dutra-St. John, along with two of the refugees who have become leaders in the organization, Nyasha Zhakata and Lionel Momusing, who work in two different countries and continents. They will do mini-workshop activities to illustrate what The Dream Academy involves. The second half of the event will be about the impact of The Dream Academy with the work of the students at Adelphi and the research team, leading to questions and answers.
