This vibrant discussion, hosted by Karen A.N. Webster, will cover what it takes to successfully develop your leadership skills in corporate America.

The Leadership Certificate Program (LCP) is a free program which offers Adelphi undergraduate and graduate students opportunities to develop leadership and professional skills. Participants attend workshops on a wide variety of topics during the course of the year. To participate in the Leadership Certificate Program, you must attend a minimum of six workshops, plus CORE and SafeZone training. Each student must complete the workshops within the academic year and submit the evaluations.

Karen Webster

Karen Webster is a former Vice President at Citi with 25+ years of banking experience. She first started her career in Trinidad & Tobago, West Indies at the Royal Bank of Trinidad & Tobago (now RBC) where she worked for 6 years in Cards, and shortly after was promoted to Operations. Her studies brought her to the US where she did her Marketing Associate degree at Nassau Community College where she graduated on the Dean’s List. Miss Webster also completed her Bachelor in Business Management at Adelphi University where she graduated Signa Cum Laude. In 2004 she restarted her career in banking after working in Retail and Telecommunications for 3 years.

Karen was hired at Citi to the 2-year Management Associate program which is a management training program at Citigroup tailored to college graduates who have their sights on a career in Project Management, Operations or Banking Management as an end goal. Karen attained her securities licenses Series 6, 63, 24 as well as Life and Health insurance license. After 24 months of management training, Karen was afforded the opportunity to work in non-functional roles at Citi which included Client Experience and various management projects alongside senior leadership. She graduated early and began her role as a Vice President in Long Island in 2006 where she managed multiple successful branches (up to 16 employees) where she coached diverse employees who advanced in their careers becoming branch assistant managers or branch managers.

In 2020 Miss Webster was invited by senior management to join a women’s cohort called Black Women at Citi – a joint workstream between the Black Heritage and Citi Women affinities – led by managing directors Bola Oyesanya and Timicka Anderson to focus on the intersection of both affinities. The joint priority was to focus on three pillars: engagement of Black women at Citi, professional development for Black women, and education for managers and peers.

In January and February 2024 Miss Webster was recognized by SHRM for her participation in HR Talent Accelerator Program and the Mentorship Program. She is also a Co-Lead for the Mentorship Pillar for a Not-for-Profit WRAP TT (an organization committed to the advancement of women and girls of Trinidad & Tobago diaspora). Karen supported Braven (a career-accelerating experience for multicultural college students in NYC) by conducting virtual Mock-Interview sessions in October 2023, and continues this great work in Spring 2024. Miss Webster is currently working on her certification as a Trainer at Dale Carnegie. At Adelphi University Miss Webster provides coaching and professional development to seniors, is a registered mentor there and serves on the Student Affairs Advisory board helping to coordinate university led activities e.g. Career Boot Camp. Miss Webster also served as a panelist during the Women’s Leadership Conference on March 9, 2024.

Miss Webster received her Master of Business Administration from Capella University in June 2023 (with a specialization in Human Resources) and graduated Magna Cum Laude. Karen is a travel enthusiast, and in her spare time she also enjoys Yoga and outdoor activities like white water rafting and hiking expeditions. She has a passion for singing, Latin Dancing and volunteering.
