Learn from Neil Halloran, Director of the Business Internship and Mentorship program at the Willumstad School of Business, how deal with the key strategies of Impression Management (IM).
Impression Management defined is behaving in ways so that others perceive us how we want to be perceived. Using the strategies of IM, each participant will take an assessment of their IM strategies. This knowledge will enable students to properly prepare for their job search and job interviews.
IM strategies are used by many Fortune 500 companies as a tool to hire the best new hires for specific jobs in their company.
This event is part of Adelphi’s Leadership Certificate Program. However, you do not need to be a part of the Leadership Certificate Program to attend this event.
About the Speaker:
Neil Halloran, the founder, and president of a consulting firm, Halloran & Associates, has an extensive background in sales, marketing and education. Previously, he worked for IBM for 20 years and was the director of corporate and executive training at 1-800-FLOWERS.COM. While at IBM, Mr. Halloran managed IBM’s Advanced Business Institute and worked with senior IBM executives on implementing innovative leadership curricula. He has been recognized by Forbes and Business Management magazines for his accomplishments in training and consulting.
At Adelphi, Mr. Halloran said his main goal is to “tailor the course curricula for [students] to develop their skills as well as enable current professionals to compete in the private and public sectors of business.”Mr. Halloran reviews and adjusts students’ résumés to cater to specific jobs, and provides students with the latest state-of-the-art job search strategies. In 2010, he piloted a business simulation project in the graduate business course, Developing World Class Human Resources, enabling each student to participate in a real-world scenario. He has held many management and developmental workshops, including a team-building seminar for resident assistants, a leadership workshop for hall directors and an introduction to leadership class for Adelphi’s 2011 Leadership Certificate Program. Student Tiffany DeMillio said, “I left his class feeling more experienced…and better able to handle life and work situations.”
About the Leadership Certificate Program
The Leadership Certificate Program is an interdepartmental initiative hosted by the Center for Career and Professional Development, the Center for Student Involvement, the Office of Alumni Relations and the Robert B. Willumstad School of Business.
Its goal is to offer Adelphi undergraduate and graduate students opportunities to develop leadership and professional skills. Participants are able to attend workshops on a wide variety of topics during the course of the year.
Requirements for Students
To participate in the Leadership Certificate Program, you must RSVP for a minimum of six events. Each student must complete the workshops within the academic year.
