In Buy Me Love, Cooley examines the unexpected aftermath of a lottery win by one of the novel’s two main protagonists, Ellen Portinari, a 52-year-old freelance editor and aspiring poet living on her own in New York City. After learning the ticket she’s purchased on a whim is the winner for a $100 million jackpot, Ellen realizes she must reassess her life. Meanwhile a young, alienated visual artist, Blair Talpa, realizes she, too, must do things very differently—with unexpected consequences.

Great Books, Great Conversations is hosted by:

  • Jacqueline Jones La Mon, professor and vice president of diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Sybile Val ’99, MD.

Dr. Jones LaMon and Dr. Val will host a book discussion featuring Adelphi authors on an ongoing basis.
