Custodians of Wonder: Talk with Journalist Eliot Stein
Event Actions
Join the History, Anthropology, and Environmental Studies Departments on a tour to learn about the most interesting artisans across the globe.
Eliot Stein is a journalist and travel writer for BBC and National Geographic with a keen eye on history and culture. He will share of his experience meeting Peru’s oldest living maker of grass-bridges, hearing the songs of a descendent of legendary West African griots, and of his own meetings with clandestine Cuban cigar-making revolutionaries. These are stories that will come out later this year in his new book Custodians of Wonder. But they are also stories that transformed Stein’s own understanding of the power of art and cultural tradition in the world today.
The Eliot Stein lecture is made possible with generous support from the Department of History, Department of Anthropology, and Environmental Studies Program. We also thank CAS and the Latin American Studies program for supporting the lecture.
