Our Alternative Winter Break will be held from January 9-15 in Northern California. We’ll be working in the Town of Paradise, which was destroyed in 2018’s Camp Fire. It was the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California’s history. The area was also threatened by the Dixie Fire this year and was thankfully spared. We’ll be rebuilding homes with partners like Habitat for Humanity, All Hands and Hearts, Love Builds, and Hope City. Our work will also include fuel mitigation, an important environmental factor in increasing the town’s resistance to future fires. We’ll be staying at a hotel in Chico.
Please understand that this trip is contingent on the CDC and University guidelines. If the climate of the state or university changes the trip maybe subjected to being canceled.
There will be opportunities for discussion around the context of our work, why it matters, and how you can take the spirit of service back to campus with you. Alternative Breaks are a transformative experience for all involved, from the communities we serve to the students who step out of their comfort zones.
On this community service trip you will:

This trip will cost $900. The cost of this trip has been subsidized for students by the Student Government Association and Graduate Student Council. Once you hand in your first deposit, you are securing a spot on the trip. The first non-refundable deposit of $100.50 is due on November. 15th, 2021. Spots are limited.

Payment 2: Due on 12/10/21 – $400.50
