This is an introductory course to communication, speech, and language development in children. Students will learn about typical language development in all language domains: phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics as it relates to theoretical approaches to language acquisition and intervention from antiracist perspective. PERFORMANCE OUTCOMES – based on the 6 goals of the Conceptual FrameworkUpon completion of this course, the student will be able to:Define and discuss the terms “communication”, “language”, “speech”, “phonology”, “semantics”, “syntax”, “morphology”, “English as a Second Language”, “bilingualism”, etc.Understand and apply theories of language acquisitionUnderstand and apply theories of speech developmentUnderstand and apply theories of bilingualism and multilingualism
