This course provides an opportunity to examine topics in special education to reflect on significant education issues and research findings that are of current interest to both general education and special education classroom teachers. Students will have opportunities to engage in critical thinking, reading, and writing about the issues explored.

A basic working knowledge of APA style (6th edition).Knowledge of current special education research trends. A working knowledge of research approaches and research methods. The skill to identify empirical and non-empirical literature. The skill to be a critical reader of research articles.An understanding of basic statistics. A knowledge of technical writing skills.Reflective Practice: An understanding of ethics in research.Social Justice: Develop an understanding and use of people-first language to reflect a respect for all individuals.Inclusive Community: Contribution to the field and society at large.C.
