Students must post a completed fieldwork log to moodle As the second course in science methods, this course allows teachers and future teachers to explore high school science curricula with the assistance of local master teachers. By offering their experience and expertise, the master teachers will provide Adelphi students with the chance to truly interact with the Regent's curriculum and receive actual teaching examples and demonstrations from people in the field. The content areas of earth science, biology, chemistry, physics and informal science learning/museum education will be utilized. Course ObjectivesEach course objective is followed by a reference to the standards with which it aligns:(a) Adelphi University Core Values (AUCV)(b) National Science Teacher Association Standards (NSTA)The activities in this course will help you continue to develop the dispositions, skills, and talents of an effective science teacher in grades 7-12, including:• acting not only as a teacher, but also as a learner and researcher about science and science teaching throughout your career (AUCV 1; NSTA 1,2,6)• understanding science in a way that allows you to teach it in a clear, challenging, and compelling way (AUCV 1,2,4; NSTA 1,3,5,9)• evaluating your work and adjusting your classroom methods to better meet the needs of your students (AUCV 2,3,5,6; NSTA 5,8)• developing a sensitivity and effectiveness in developing curricula for students from diverse backgrounds (AUCV 2,3,5; NSTA 2,4,5)• challenging students to act as researchers, debaters, presenters, and critical thinkers as they learn about science (AUCV 3,6; NSTA 3,5,6,8)• transforming your subject matter knowledge into learning experiences where students have a variety of ways to demonstrate understanding (AUCV 1,4,6; NSTA 5,6,8)• communicating effectively with students, parents, and other teachers to build a community of learners (AUCV 3,4; NSTA 7,10)
