This course examines a variety of evidence-based social work practice modalities in direct work with children, adolescents, and their families. Assessment and interventive skills from modalities such as Suicide Safer Care, TF-CBT and Behavioral Activation are studied as they pertain to collaborative health care settings such as hospitals, schools and child welfare settings.   

Upon completion of this course, students are able to:Display knowledge about the theoretical underpinnings of the following Evidence-Based Practices: Suicide Safer Care, TF-CBT, Interpersonal Therapy, Behavioral Activation Problem Solving Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (Corresponds to Competency 4, Practice Behavior A);Practice on a clinical level with children, adolescents and young adults in a variety of primary care behavioral health settings using the Collaborative Care Model.  (Corresponds to Competency 1 - Practice Behavior A, Competency 2 - Practice Behavior A, Competency 4 – Practice Behavior A, Competency 6 – Practice Behavior A, B, Competency 7, Practice Behavior A, B);Apply knowledge of human diversity as it relates to children, adolescents and their caregivers, and its impact on behavioral health practice with individuals and families.  (Corresponds to Competency 2 - Practice Behavior A, B);Demonstrate knowledge of Suicide Safer Care, TF-CBT, Interpersonal Therapy, Behavioral Activation Problem Solving Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy and the ability to integrate these approaches according to the needs of a given client system (Competency 4 – Practice Behavior A, Competency 6 – Practice Behavior A, B, Competency 7, Practice Behavior A, B);Demonstrate skill in completing assessments and developing comprehensive treatment plans for children, adolescents and transitional age youth for those presenting with symptoms that may warrant a DSM-V diagnosis such as depression and anxiety (Competency 7, Practice Behavior A, B)
