This course examines a variety of social work practice modalities in direct work with children, adolescents, and their families. Assessment and interventive skills are studied as they pertain to the special problems related to life conditions and events affecting children and adolescents. The societal and organizational context which frames the service delivery system for children and adolescents will be explored.

1. Demonstrate an understanding of advanced knowledge of assessment, assessment techniques and fundamental intervention strategies specific to practice with children and adolescents.2. Develop a critical awareness in considering personal values, experiences, ethnic, cultural, social and economic factors as they relate to the social work relationship in direct practice with children and adolescents and their families3. Display knowledge of risk and protective factors that contribute to the specific problems or life situations experienced by children and adolescents and be able to differentially apply this knowledge to direct practice4. Conduct psychosocial evaluations that consider environmental, cultural, racial, ethnic, family, and gender factors that influence children and adolescent behavior. 5. Demonstrate an ability to apply the Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting guidelines.
